  • Struggle to read the messages on your smartphone?
  • Do images appear less vibrant than they used to?

Growing old is a privilege.

But when it comes to eye health, aging can bring on several ocular conditions and diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Vision impairment decreases one's ability to perform activities of daily living and increases the risk for depression.

Whether you need reading glasses, bifocals, post-cataract surgery care, or eye disease co-management, we've got you covered!

At Eyes on Lincoln - O Street Eyecare in Hartley, we believe that prevention is the best medicine. That’s why annual eye exams are so important for seniors. Detecting eye conditions early on can help prevent or delay vision loss, keeping your vision clearer for longer. Some serious eye conditions don’t present noticeable symptoms until vision loss has occurred. Fortunately, these can be detected in their early stages by your eye care professional during your eye exam.

If an eye disease is diagnosed, we’ll create a custom treatment plan and monitor your condition closely to ensure the best outcome.

Senior Vision FAQs

Can presbyopia be corrected?

Presbyopia, age-related farsightedness, affects your eyes’ ability to focus on near objects. You may become aware of presbyopia once you begin holding books and newspapers at arm’s length to be able to read them. This condition is a natural part of the aging process and affects virtually all adults in their 40s. Our eye doctors will diagnose and help correct your presbyopia so you can see clearly again. They'll provide you with corrective glasses and/or contact lenses, such as monovision and multifcoals.

What are the most common vision problems in the elderly?

The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

  • Age-related macular degeneration is characterized by the loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma results in visual field loss.
  • Cataracts cause blurred vision and faded colors among the elderly.
  • Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by blurred vision and floaters, among other symptoms.
  • Other conditions include dry or watery eyes and floaters.

Because many of these conditions may initially be asymptomatic, it's critical that elderly patients undergo routine eye exams. The earlier these conditions are detected, the better the treatment outcome.

Can macular degeneration be prevented?

Although there’s no sure-fire method for preventing eye disease, certain lifestyle habits can put the odds in your favor. To help ensure healthy vision for a lifetime, wear high-quality sunglasses whenever outdoors, quit smoking if you do, eat eye-healthy foods, and ask your optometrist about taking AREDS supplements. Most importantly, regular visits with your eye doctor are crucial to keeping your vision sharp throughout your golden years.

The friendliest staff here! Dr. Weber is hands down my favorite eye care provider, from his charming... bedside manner to his fun facts and overall knowledge and passion about his profession and patient care he makes me happy to choose Eyes on Lincoln as my go to eye care provider! I was seen here on a same day appointment for an acute eye problem and Dr. Weber was able to see me and get me the relief I needed through some medicated eye drops. A week later I followed up with healthy eyes and a full exam and prescription! They accept Medicaid here as well as other private insurance and they have their own glasses lab! Eyes on Lincoln really is a good full service eye care provider! I would recommend checking them out for your next eye appointment!

Friendly knowledgeable staff. The exam was thorough but quick. I was very satisfied with the care th... ey gave me. I wasn't impressed with the smaller selection of eyewear so I took my prescription elsewhere but I would use them again for the exam.

New patient here! So far today was my first visit/exam. I called yesterday knowing it may take a bit... to get in, so when they called back having an opening today I jumped on it. My favorite frames broke and I was about due for an exam anyways. Going in I was greeted right away. I made sure to show up ten minutes early to get the paperwork out of the way (which wasn't bad at all and the front desk did good explaining it all.) Right when my appointment time showed, I was being called back already. First time not needing to wait compared to other places in town! With the updated technology since my last exam, it was pretty new to me but they did so great taking the time to explain each piece of equipment, and answering my random questions. When I got to the last room to be met by Dr. Weber, again I only sat for maybe five minutes tops. He showed me my scans and finished the exam. When I explained my concern of wanting to find frames similar in weight more than the looks, he introduced me to someone who knew exactly what would fit best for me. In total I was in and out in about 40 minutes. For me that's the quickest it's been. Glasses should be in in about 2 weeks which is normal for any place, will do a fitment then and give update.

I have came here for years up from a teen until an adult. I now have a 10 year old who is practicall... y blind and a serial glasses breaker 😂 I was so stressed about how to get him more glasses before school because we were just there Renee (sorry if I misspelled your name) made it so easy for me and was very patient with me. I thank you it’s enough stress I have to come in every couple of months so her being so helpful and kind definitely relieved me of some of my stress! Thank you and you definitely made my day!
